Key Problems with Mattresses Supplied by AgedCare Providers
Generally, these mattresses are either
A) Memory foam (non-sprung) mattresses with stiff basefoam
B) Spring type mattresses with foam & memory foam toppings
Memory foam being a slow recovery material, has a massive trade-off with support as it does not push back in real time. In non-sprung foam mattresses, this leads to excessive hammocking & contortion of the spine. Because it lacks the guts, it often bottoms out leading to excessive hip & shoulder pressure when used on firmer springs or when the mattress is in a thin profile.
Memory foam (non-sprung) mattresses need a layer of basefoam to reduce the hammocking effect of the slow recovery comfort layer on-top. However, they this stiffens the mattress reducing bendability.
Spring type mattresses with foam & memory foam toppings are even less bendable, because springs are less flexible.
Suppliers of these mattresses & bases will not tell you that when raised these mattresses, they do not conform very well and leave large gaps in hip zone between the mattress and base.
Even though polyurethane foam and memory foam costs a fraction to make compared to better quality organic natural latex companies are selling glorified foam mattresses for even more than what we sell latex for.
